Christmas and New Year 2021

7th December 2021

Cat sitting on a christmas presentWe will continue to provide care for your pets over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Please note – our opening hours may be subject to change over the holiday.

If you are concerned about the health or welfare of your pet, please call us for an appointment or emergency services. Our friendly reception team will advise you of when and where you can be seen and what you need to do.

In the case of an emergency outside of our opening hours, please contact our out of hours emergency service. Please note: In order to safely provide 24-hour emergency care for your pets at this time, the way you access emergency healthcare for your pet may not always be at your usual branch.

Please only attend at the practice if you have called us first and have a pre-booked appointment. Thank you.

We wish you all a safe and very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We are here to help if you need us

Throughout the holidays, our team is here to help with telephone consultations with the vet, pre-booked appointments in practice, or to order and pick up repeat medicines.

The health and safety of our clients and colleagues alongside the welfare of the animals in our care remain our main priority. We are constantly reviewing our COVID-19 risk assessment in line with Government guidelines and guidance from our governing body – the RCVS – and will keep you updated of any changes.

We politely ask that you do not attend the practice unless you have called us first and booked an appointment. Thank you.

Repeat medication

If you are due your next supply of repeat medication you can either call us, email us or request this via the website repeat prescription form.

Prior to dispensing your treatment, a member of our team will call you to take payment where applicable and arrange safe collection.

Vaccinations and routine procedures

We are working hard to ensure all vaccinations due and routine procedures such as neutering are booked in, whilst maintaining stringent biosecurity protocols.

Your veterinary team is here and able to support you with telephone consultations and pre-booked appointments. Please contact us if you have any specific questions or pet health concerns.

Rabbit Awareness Week 28th June – 4th July 2021

22nd June 2021

Rabbit awareness week post imageThis year is the 15th anniversary of Rabbit Awareness Week and the campaign will cover all aspects of rabbit care through their lifetime.

Rabbits are living longer as we learn more about how to care for them properly and as veterinary medicine advances.

This means rabbit owners will have their bunnies right through to old age and as a result will need to adapt aspects of their care to suit their needs e.g. having a life-stage appropriate diet and making adaptations to their housing.

The campaign covers advice for new owners bringing home young rabbits, right through to looking at caring for adult and mature rabbits.

The campaign will appeal to all rabbit owners, whether they have only just got their pets or had them for years. There will also be advice for those who are thinking about giving a home to rabbits.

You can find out more about the campaign here: https://www.burgesspetcare.com/raw/owners/ or visit our rabbit healthcare advice section

May 2021 is Veterinary Nursing Awareness month

28th April 2021

RVN with clipboard Veterinary Nursing Awareness month is a yearly celebration in recognition of the skills and value registered veterinary nurses bring to animal health and welfare.

Under their job title as regulated professionals, Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) work closely with our Veterinary surgeons to ensure that your pets are cared for in the best possible way.

Registered Veterinary Nurses have undertaken rigorous training and completed demanding examinations to achieve qualification and entry onto the Register of Veterinary Nurses held by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

On any given day, our RVNs may find themselves collecting and testing laboratory samples, taking X-rays, medicating patients in the hospital ward, monitoring anaesthetics, dressing wounds, assisting with surgical procedures and performing minor procedures such as suturing wounds and removing benign skin masses. The list goes on!

Did you also know that our RVNs are qualified to offer a diverse range of consultations and clinics within the practice?

The following are examples of just a few:

  • Preventative healthcare advice.
  • 6 monthly Healthy Pet Club health checks.
  • Pre and post-operative checks.
  • Help with Chronic disease management such as Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Kidney disease, skin disease & more.
  • Nutritional advice.
  • Wound management.
  • 2nd & 3rd Vaccines.

Some RVNs undertake specialist training in a range of topics, especially the care of exotic pets, feline medicine, anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, wound management and dentistry.

If you would like to find out more about a career in veterinary nursing visit the British Veterinary Nursing Association website at bnva.org
